Highlights
Manuel Antonio National Park
Choosing between the forest and the beach will no longer be a problem when visiting Manuel Antonio National Park in Costa Rica. The popular 682 hectares reserve protects a tropical rainforest lined by blue ocean waters and packed with diversity of flora and fauna. The well kept trails lead you to a lookout point offering breathtaking panoramic views of the park and the surrounding ocean.
While walking through the forest along with one of Visit Costa Rica Hotels experienced guides, you will come across white-faced capuchin, spider and howler monkeys, sloths, iguanas, coati scampers, toucans, parrots and scarlet macaws among others. If you prefer to relax at the beach, Manuel Antonio National Park offers within its boundaries four white sand beaches considered by many as the nicest in Costa Rica with a receded bay, coral reef and soothing tidal pools.
Deep Sea Fishing
Quepos has been considered for years as the center of fishing on the mid pacific coast of Costa Rica. Billfish and sailfish are the target of most visiting anglers, accessible at no more than a 12 to 20 miles run to the blue water where most of the action is encountered. Inshore sport includes tuna, roosterfish, wahoo, dorado, jacks, mackerel, cubera and a variety of small snapper species.
Starting December up to April, there is a steady action for deep sea fishing in the area when a major concentration of sailfish moves to the central coastal region to join the earlier-arriving marlin. When it peaks releases of 12 to 20 fish a day are common, with a few unbelievable days with 30 or more releases.
