Liberia
Liberia is the capital city of Guanacaste province and is located 135 miles northwest of San Jose near to the north pacific coast of Costa Rica. Liberia is known to be the home of the “Sabaneros” (Costa Rican cowboys) which still can be seen herding cattle across the savannah. Liberia is considered to be the most colonial city in Costa Rica, where culture and tradition come alive every July with colorful fiestas featuring rodeos, typical dancing and savory food.

Also, Liberia city celebrates their “Fiestas Civicas” the last week of February where the main attraction is the costarican style bullfights (1 bull, 300 people and a small bullfighting ring). Liberia city is a perfect place to take a break from driving if you are traveling by land in order to enjoy a wide variety of restaurants, museums, nightlife and the vibrant north pacific life.
