The area of Mal Pais is great for intermediate surfers although large swells can be expected bringing excitement to advanced surfers. There are several breaks in the area including Santa Teresa, which hollow beach break offers good lefts and rights; or Playa Carmen with waves offering a long right wall and a shorter left, breaking over a sloping sand bottom.
Cabo Blanco National Park
Being the first National Park created in Costa Rica, the 1172 hectares Cabo Blanco Natural Reserve is located on the pointy end of the Nicoya Peninsula and protects a wet and dry ecosystem. The park efficient trail system allows visitors to explore the lush forest and deserted beaches with fine white sand and refreshing tide pools. During a visit to the park you may see howler, capuchin and spider monkeys, coatis, snakes, anteaters, sloths, tepezcuintles, parakeets, herons, trogons and many other forest residents.
