About

Rincon de la Vieja
Rincon de la Vieja is located in the Guanacaste province northwest of San Jose near to the north pacific coast of Costa Rica; and near to other popular destinations such as Liberia and Papagayo Peninsula from where excursions to this area can easily be arranged. The area is home to the Rincon de La Vieja National Park. Fumaroles, ash columns, hot springs, mud pools, volcanic rock formations and lava paths are just a few reasons to visit the area and get closer to the center of the earth.  Also, the area is surrounded by three different habitats including the cloud forest, tropical rainforest and the upland tropical dry forest.

Lodging options in the area available through Visit Costa Rica Hotels range from rustic facilities from where a full assortment of tours and activities can take place to explore the National Park and surrounding areas, up to deluxe and intimate accommodations with spa and hot springs facilities.

Highlights

Rincon de la Vieja National Park & Volcano
With more than 5000 feet above sea level, the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano and National Park is an ideal destination in Costa Rica for hearty adventurers searching for thermal mud pools, waterfall swimming areas and fresh water lakes. Visitors will find a well marked trail system in the park for their enjoyment of the surrounding tropical forest and the volcanic natural attractions.

A visit to the park`s forest is a lifetime adventure where hot springs create small streams with very hot water and Solfataric lakes (containing sulfur dioxide) are easily spotted with constantly bubbling muddy water as well as vapor holes.  Also, be prepared to spot interesting wildlife with a variety of monkey species, rare birds and wild animals adding excitement to your journey.
