Costa Rica Entry Requirements
For entry to Costa Rica, U.S. citizens must present valid passports that will not expire for at least thirty days after arrival plus a roundtrip/outbound ticket. Airlines will not allow permit to board a flight to Costa Rica without a roundtrip ticket unless passengers have a Costa Rica residency or visa.
Local authorities will allow generally a stay up to ninety days to U.S. citizens; otherwise an extension application should be submitted to the Department of Immigration. There is a departure tax applicable of $26 per person when leaving the country.
